Denise and Mark had the support of both their families along with many alums. Among those that came were Jim Bolton ’72, Diane Cambourelis ’82, Jen (Stumpp) Hevenor ’82, Marla (Johnson) Saunders ’82, Fred Budd ’81, Bill Horwood '76, and Ginny Gibney ’88.
Athletic Director, Jeannine Cavallaro shared with those in attendance, “I am reminded of the scripture found in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven.” As I took the time to learn about Denise and Mark in preparing for today, I have been convinced that both of our inductees live their lives as a light unto the Lord.”
Although Mark’s soccer coach, Tim Slighter, couldn’t make it to the ceremony, he sent along words of encouragement and congratulations, saying, “I think the world of Mark MacDonald and I have always put him on the top tier of athletes that I coached. His presence on and off the field had tremendous impact on others. His 52 goals in his senior year remains the school record for goals in a season and his team went to the MIAA finals in Division 2 North that year. “
Coach Irene Campbell reflected on her relationship with Denise and shared the various ways they have remained close: “I have had the privilege and pleasure to have known Denise as a player, I coached her in basketball and softball her senior year, where she helped me grow. She was talented and made the most of her gifts. I’ve also known her as a team mate when I played softball with her on a traveling women’s team. I’ve known Denise as a colleague as well when we both taught at LCA. And lastly, I’ve known her as a friend and I couldn’t find one better.”
