The 2005 Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee
Mr. Miles Strodel - Coach, Mentor, Headmaster
Headmaster, Athletic Director, Teacher, and beloved basketball coach. As our first inductee, Miles epitomized the Christian values, discipline, and spirit of the LCA experience. Miles began coaching at Lexington Christian Academy, then known as Christian High School, at just 21 years of age. Throughout his tenure as the boys varsity basketball coach, he led his teams to win the Bay State Championship several times over, and achieve remarkable success on the court. While his winning record is impressive, perhaps more impressive are the lessons that he succeeded in teaching his athletes and students.
In the words of his athletes and students…
“During my impressionable teen years, no one had a greater character-forming impact on my life as a coach, mentor, teacher and friend than Miles Strodel.” – Marv Wilson ’53, Ph.D.
“Miles and Grace joined CHS at a crucial time in the school’s development and transition. As headmaster, Miles and those he recruited brought the right balance of athletic, social, educational, and spiritual components to foster significant institutional growth of CHS and LCA.” – Conrad Johanson ’60, M.D.
“As I remember my days at CHS back in the 1950s, one person stands out as being instrumental in changing my life…that was Miles Strodel. He was my mentor, father substitute, and friend, and I grew in the Lord because of his constant witness to me.” – Pat Cole ’56
In his own words…
“A person who does not believe in anything will never achieve excellence. What do you believe in, and how ardently do you believe it? This is a timely question. As you graduate from Christian High School, it is my heartfelt desire that every motivation and area of your thought-life will be centered in the revelation and person of Jesus Christ. A foundation erected upon the eternal Word of God will enable you to live triumphantly in a society of materialism and advance God’s kingdom in a most difficult age.”
