Lady Lions Fall in NEPSAC Finals
Posted 03/07/2016 03:13PM

Girls Varsity Basketball had one of the most successful seasons in program history. Under the leadership of 1st year head coach Steve Schmidt and his assistant coach Brittney Murphy (2nd year), the Lady Lions rattled off an impressive 19-1 regular season record and captured an undefeated Eastern Independent League Championship. LCA would go on to defeat Winsor and Pingree to claim the 2016 EIL A Pool Tournament Championship and headed into the NEPSAC Class C Tournament as the #3 seed.

LCA hosted #6 Wilbraham & Monson and jumped out to an early 24-6 lead and did not look back. The Lady Lions advanced to the NEPSAC Semifinals with a 62-38 win. Last Saturday LCA hosted the #7 seed, St. Andrew’s in front of a packed house in the Miles M. Strodel Gym. The semifinal was an incredibly exciting affair as LCA played great defense and hit some big shots down the stretch to win 69-67 and advanced to their first NEPSAC title game since 2013.

On Sunday, the Lady Lions and many LCA faithful traveled to Noble & Greenough to take on the #4 seed Proctor Academy. Proctor started strong and established a 10 point lead. LCA tried to chip away at the deficit, but were not able to overcome it as Proctor held on 61-45. LCA finished the season an incredible 23-2 and NEPSAC Finalists. The team played great defense throughout the season and played a fun-to-watch, fast paced offense. The 2015-16 season was one for the LCA girls basketball record books.
