Varsity Wrestling entered Tuesday's league match with Chapel Hill already claiming at least a share of the the Eastern Independent League Championship - their second straight league title and 12th in program history. A win over the visiting Chargers would secure an undisputed, undefeated league title. If Chapel Hill were to prevail, LCA and Chapel Hill would be Co-Champions.
In a total team effort, highlighted by exciting wins by captain Connor Meany '16, David Acevedo '16, and Eugene Lee '18, the Lions defeated Chapel Hill 54-18. The win wrapped up a 12-0 record in EIL matches and improved LCA's regular season NEPSAC record to 25-1. In NEPSAC competition the Lions earned signature wins over Noble & Greenough, Lawrence Academy, St. Mark's, St. Sebastian's, and Concord Academy. Outside of league and NEPSAC competition, the Lions also won the Assabett Duals in January and defeated cross-town rival Lexington High School 49-24.
Next up for the Lions is the Eastern Independent League Tournament at Portsmouth Abbey (RI) on Saturday, February 13. The team will also compete at the NEPSAC Tournament at Avon Old Farms, February 19-20. Congratulations to all LCA Wrestlers and Coaches Charlie Cowen, Mark Getchell, Reid Mosquera, and Nathan Calandra '10 on a great season!
