Welcome from Alumni Council President

My name is David Andersen, a member of the Class of 1957, and the newly appointed Chair of the Alumni Council. I am very pleased for this opportunity to serve in this capacity and hope that this committee will be able to provide the leadership needed to forge a closer and more vibrant relationship between LCA and its alumni.

Perhaps you may not be aware that this year the Academy is celebrating its 50th year in Lexington; and, having begun in 1946 as Boston Christian in Cambridge, we will be celebrating our 75th anniversary as a school in 2021. What is of utmost importance is that the Academy continues today to be faithful to its New England, evangelical roots. As someone recently remarked, “the name has changed but the pervading Christian atmosphere has not changed.” This is clearly reflected in the school’s mission statement which says, “Our mission remains to educate young men and women in the arts and sciences with a complete commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.” This is a heritage we can be very proud of.

Academically there have been so many advances since those early days in Cambridge. Today’s students benefit from a vast array of educational opportunities that did not exist then. We can be very proud of the accomplishments of our graduating students, many of whom are being admitted into our finest colleges and universities.

We can also be proud of the growth of the campus and particularly of the addition of the Cross Worship and Performing Arts Center. This is a beautiful, high tech structure that provides the setting for both corporate worship for the student body and a venue for the theatrical and musical productions. In addition, it has been announced that plans for have been developed to add a fitness center and update the current locker rooms, showers and restrooms. The cost for this is estimated to be $1.25 million.

We can be very thankful that the Academy is doing so well. Now it is up to us, the ones who have benefitted so much for the years we spent at the school, to see that this legacy is carried on. I would encourage each of you, and especially those who have not been on the campus, to join us for an upcoming alumni event. You can call 781-862-7850 x149 or email alumni@lca.edu for more details. We would also welcome any new members to the alumni council; contact me through the number or email just listed. I look forward to working with each of you.
