The LCAx Summer Academy courses are designed to sharpen students' academic skills, engage their creativityand build healthy remote learning habits. Summer Academy will set up every student for success as they return to school, whether public or private, this fall.

Distance learning is only boring when it’s not done right.

Engage with a new kind of learning experience with LCA's Summer Academy. Offering individualized and engaging programming for public or private school students in grades 6-12 this summer, our full suite of courses include fun and creative ways to brush up on math and writing skills, a virtual musical theatre intensive, and SSAT prep courses - all to set students up for success.

SESSION 3 ONLY! 

Summary: Many independent schools require student applicants to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) as a gauge of student learning and capability. Test results can impact both admissions and scholarship opportunities. With our small class sizes (10 participants max), your student will receive the full attention they need to succeed. This course meets during Session 3 only. 

Highly qualified teachers with a proven track record will help students:

  • Become familiar with the test format
  • Learn how to read and interpret questions
  • Practice real test questions and understand why your answers are incorrect
  • Explore: When should I guess? How much time should I spend on a question?

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER ACADEMY

Math and English for Middle School Students

Half Day Math Course: $500/session
Half Day English Course: $500/session

Full Day Math & English: $900/total 

Times: 8:30am - 11:30am
Enrollment Limit: 12 participants

Summary: Learn from heroes! From pop-culture icons, to world-changers, to Shakespeare, this course will take you on a journey that will leave you feeling like a super-reader and next-level writer. Lessons will incorporate fun, physical (and outdoor!) activities, as well as live interaction with your peers and teachers.

This course is multi-level by design. It will be scaffolded and structured to support the learning of students entering grades 6-8. Students will receive direct and differentiated goals indicative of their level.

Times: 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Enrollment Limit: 12 participants

Summary: Like if math were a game...

This course uses real-world problems and scenarios to shape an understanding of the practicality and importance of math. Learning will be individualized as daily challenges unlock clues to solve the weekly mystery. Students will develop habits that will equip them for a lifetime of math learning: collaboration, grit, endurance, and process. 

Designed to be an on-ramp to higher level middle school and beginning high school math. Skill levels accommodated include pre-algebra and geometry, and material will be structured for students entering grades 6-8.

UPPER SCHOOL SUMMER ACADEMY

Math and English for Upper School Students

Half Day Math Course: $500/session

Summary: In this course, students will engage their creativity and hone their essential writing skills. Students will come away with well-honed analytic skills, an engaged imagination, and a renewed appreciation for the art of writing.

Summary: In this course, students will collaborate in multi-level teams to solve complex problems while sharpening their skills and developing habits that will equip them for a lifetime of math learning. This course uses real-world scenarios to shape an understanding of the practicality and importance of math.

Designed to be an on-ramp to higher level high school math. Skill levels accommodated include algebra 1 & 2, and geometry. Course material will be structured for students entering grades 9-12. 

Advanced math students can arrange 1:1 mentorship in precalculus, calculus through the AP level. (See details at the bottom of this page.)

Summary: Confused by the college application process? Convinced you can’t write a good college essay? Concerned you didn’t receive any college counseling this spring? No problem. We can help. Make up for lost time and get yourself ready to apply to college in our College Advising Summer Workshop.

Our Group Program will guide students through the process of completing the Common Application and provide them with a proven approach to writing a compelling college essay.

  • Session 2: 4:00pm - 5:00pm
  • Session 3: 11:30am - 12:30pm

Price: $600 total

Enrollment Limit: 15 students

Summary: This course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of geometry and to develop their ability to think logically. Geometry involves an exploration of properties that are stated as theorems and the logical process of constructing proofs using these theorems.  This course stresses the practical application of geometric principles as well as focusing on some of the more theoretical aspects of the subject. The computer and online apps will be used for additional geometry explorations.  A TI-89 graphing calculator is required for this course.

Enrollment Limit: 20 participants, Middle School and High School students are welcome to participate

Summary: The Musical Theatre Intensive is an opportunity to bring your passion for theatre to the next level. Learn from 15 industry professionals about every aspect of musical production. Instructors are industry professionals with a range of experience working with Regional Theater to National Tours to Broadway and Major Films.

Not only will you be able to refine your individual performance abilities, you will also learn how to be an exceptional cast member who understands all the roles of a theatre creative team so you are able to interact with them (and be that actor who directors want to cast in future productions because of this!)

1:1 TUTORING & MENTORSHIP

Limited 1:1 tutoring is available from Middle School to AP level. Tutoring sessions are flexibly scheduled with your tutor - one of LCA's gifted faculty. If you are interested please indicate your subject (English/Math) and the level at which you will require tutoring support at registration. Once you have registered our administrative team will match you with the right tutor and you can book your sessions accordingly.
