Sophomore, Henry Lockwood '16 worked for the Appalachian Mountain Club this past summer. Henry worked to improve the Great Gulf Trail on Mt. Washington. He hiked into the wilderness and set up camp. From there he hiked up the trail until he found a place where the trail wasn’t very good. He then worked in that spot to improve the trail, often moving large boulders and clearing brush.
Carrying the equipment in for four miles wasn’t easy. Henry carried rock bars to move giant rocks. He also carried tents, cooking equipment and food. Over the course of the project, Henry hiked to the top of Mt. Washington twice. Henry said that his favorite part of this project was meeting new friends that love to hike.
