"I appreciated being involved in a smaller, more intimate environment where a teacher could pull you aside and say,
'Wow, you can sing.' I don’t think that happens at a bigger school. And that happened across the board at LCA."

Concerts

Every instrumental and vocal ensemble at LCA participates in concerts throughout the year. During rehearsals students learn technique, history, skills of interpretation, musical language, how to work as a unit, and other skills associated with music-making. In performance, however, students learn the vital skill of sharing their art and giving their music to others. A series of concerts are in place to allow students to develop as musicians and to master the art of performance. LCA hosts separate concerts for the middle and upper school so that all students are equally celebrated and so there is ample time for each ensemble to share the music they have prepared. These take place both in December and in April. All music ensembles also perform at the annual ArtsFest in May, a celebration of Theatre, Visual Art, and Music together.

There are various additional performance opportunities for specific ensembles. For example, Chamber Singers, the select choir, embarks on regular performance tours. All ensembles perform at numerous school functions as well, such as Commencement, Homecoming, awards ceremonies, holiday parties, chapels, and assemblies.

Deanna Witkowski | Pianist and Composer

Friday, November 20th, 2015 at 7pm
$8 at door, FREE for LCA students

Winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition. All Music Guide writes, "Witkowski's playing is consistently thrillinlg, and her musical imagination seems boundless."

"If ever there was an album that transcends genres, it's Deanna Witkowski's gorgeous CD, Raindrop: Improvisations With Chopin. On her fifth album, the pianist combines three of her passions: Chopin, jazz, and the music of Brazil. She does it so seamlessly that it sounds perfectly natural when Chopin's "Nocturne in E Minor, Oopus 72, No. 1" is fused with Luiz Bonfá and Antônio Maria's "Manhã de Carnval." -Ron Netsky, City Newspaper
