The Academy

Founded in 1946, Lexington Christian Academy provides global-learning opportunities and 21st-century academic skills with the highest standards in college preparatory education.  LCA’s program cultivates the concepts and intellectual skills needed for an understanding of the arts, humanities, and sciences. Emphasis is placed on conceptual, abstract, and critical thinking; problem-solving; and independent study.

The integration of examined Christian faith and rigorous academics is an important distinctive at LCA. Our community includes faculty and students with diverse spiritual backgrounds. Together we cultivate an environment of stimulating ideas, essential questions, and respectful inquiry. LCA is Greater Boston’s oldest independent college preparatory Christian school and is located in historic Lexington, Massachusetts, on a beautiful 30-acre campus.

Advanced Placement and Honors Program

  • The overall achieved median score for Advanced Placement Exams taken in 2011 was 4 out of 5.
  • 54 % of the students in the Class of 2011 sat for one AP Exam; 51% sat for multiple AP Exams.
  • Advanced Placement courses at LCA include: Biology, Calculus AB, English Language & Composition, English Literature, European History, Physics B, Statistics, and U.S. History.  LCA students also sat for the following AP Exams: Calculus BC, Chemistry, Computer Science A, Micro Economics, and Physics C.
  • The Honors Program includes 19 courses in 7 disciplines, with participation by teacher recommendation only.

    

Grade Calculation and Distribution

LCA does not report class rank. Total GPA is based upon a 4.0 scale for college preparatory courses (A=4.0). Additional weight is given to both Honors and AP courses (A=5.0). Calculation of GPA does not include Interim, Physical Education, or Pass/Fail grades. The distribution of Junior year final grades for Class of 2013 was as follows:

Academic Requirements for Graduation

  • 4 years of English, 3 years of Mathematics, 3 years of Laboratory Sciences (must include Biology), 2 years of World Languages, and 2 years of History (must include United States History). Sufficient additional college preparatory elective coursework is necessary to meet LCA’s 27-credit requirement for graduation.
  • 4 years of Biblical and Religious Studies—LCA is committed to a scholarly, non-sectarian approach designed to familiarize students with the varied historical contexts and literary forms in which is God is revealed.
  • 4 years of Interim Week—LCA offers a strategic, week-long program in various fields of study and interest at depths not allowed in the press of year-long college preparatory classes. Interim is a time when faculty and guests share their areas of expertise to broaden our students’ exposure to real world experiences.
  • Senior Internship—An intensive 3-week off-campus, professional placement is the capstone experience for our graduating class.  Students develop a mentorship at an approved work site and collaborate with a faculty member at LCA. Select students may be eligible for a year-long Advanced Senior Research Project.

  • LCA is a co-educational day—and now boarding—school with 305 students in Grades 6 to 12.
  • LCA students represent more than 60 local communities and several countries, including, Canada, China, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Korea, Poland, South Africa, and Uganda.
  • Average class size for Upper School is 15; Middle School is 18.  Student to teacher ratio is 10:1.
  • More than 80% of our faculty hold advanced degrees.
  • Approximately 38% of our students report racial diversity.
  • Tuition: $23,750 for the Upper School and $21,300 for the Middle School.
  • 49% of our student body receives some form of financial aid and/or scholarship. 
  • Full-credit courses meet for four, 60-minute blocks over a six-day rotation.
  • LCA’s CEEB school code is 220-495.
  • 100% of LCA students are accepted to four-year colleges. The average number of college applications submitted is 6.

 

  

Fine Arts

The Visual Art offerings include a full Middle School program, Basic Design, Stained Glass, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Architecture, Painting and Drawing I & II, Advanced Directed Studies, Portfolio, and Photography.  Music Department offerings include: Wind Ensemble, Chamber Strings, Chamber Singers, Middle School Chorus and Band, as well as opportunities to perform in concerts and the annual Chamber Singer Tour.  The Theatre program offers courses in Introduction to Theatre, Advanced Acting, Technical Theatre, Page to Stage, and Grade 6 Theatre Exploratory, as well as three auditioned productions annually.

   

Athletics

LCA competes as a member of both the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) and the Eastern Independent League (EIL). Varsity sports include Girls Field Hockey, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Cross Country, Coed Golf, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys Wrestling, Boys and Girls Lacrosse, Baseball, and Softball.
