Event Recap: On Wednesday the Lions traveled west to take on non-league opponent Worcester Academy. The Lions were looking to bounce back from a loss to BB&N, while Worcester was opening their season against LCA.
A back and forth first quarter saw LCA have clear chances around the Worcester goal, but Worcester Goalie, Radel kept the Lions off the scoreboard. Worcester put two away in the opening frame to take a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd quarter. The hosts started the 2nd quarter hot and put two more by Senior goalie Justin McDonald (Waltham) to take a 4-0 lead. Mis-cues and missed opportunities hurt LCA as Worcester capitalized to extend their lead to 6-0. Senior attack man Brian Callahan (Acton) scored LCA’s first goal of the season in the final moments of the 2nd quarter.
In the second half, the Lions improved their defensive effort and Junior Defense man, Matt Kiernan (Lexington) came up with a game high 8 ground balls. The Lions struggled to generate offense and as a result came away with a 9-1 loss. One bright spot was the continued stellar performance of Junior face-off midfielder Adam DeCosta (South Boston) who won 10 of 11 face offs – this coming off of his 12 for 16 performance against BB&N.
As the Lions look to regroup, they will be home for two games this week. Their home opener will be on Wednesday, April 11 against former EIL member, Chapel Hill at 4:00 pm. The Lions will also play Waring School on Friday, April 13 at 4:00 pm at home. Come out and support Lions Lacrosse as they look to win their first game of the 2012 season. |
