Cross Country - Varsity Boys/Girls

The LCA Boys and Girls Cross country teams are looking to build on previous growth as they open the 2013 Fall season. Both teams welcome a healthy crop of newcomers which, combined with veterans, both seek to make strides at the EIL and NEPSTA championships come November.

The Boys team has a strong balance of classes and is led this year by senior captain Dan Palmer, who is starting his third year as a member of the XC team. He is joined by fellow seniors Ben Franchi, Marcus Madaus and Alec Madaus. Ben has the most experience of anyone on either team, entering his fourth year of competition.

While there are no juniors on the team this year, the team will be relying on a strong youth movement, led by last year’s team MVP Connor Meaney. Connor was the top LCA finisher in 7 races last year and is looking to continue to move up in the league in this his second year. Meaney is joined by sophomore returners Matt Soper and Wesley Michalak who also had strong freshmen seasons. Wesley is working his way back from injury but should be back running soon. Also joining the team for their first seasons are Liam O’Toole, Drew Pelusi and Ruben Walter.

Rounding out the team and giving it some welcome depth are two freshmen. Owen Spangler, moving up from the middle school ranks, and Ben Thomas who transferred to LCA for his freshmen year.

The Girl’s squad graduated a huge core of the team last spring and will be relying on newcomers to move up in the league this season. The team is led by 3-year veteran junior captain Olivia Chen. Also returning after a season away is junior Johanna Nathan who is excited to be back with the team. The remaining returner is Sophomore Michelle Zhou who is looking to build on her experience from last year.

The girls team is fortunate to welcome 5 newcomers this season, 4 juniors and a sophomore. Junior Alexandra Madrid did well at the 2- mile time trial in preseason and will be a critical part of the team. The team also welcomes Juniors Ana Bulger, Margot O’Brien, and Juli Sampson to its ranks. Sophomore Joyous Schimdt rounds out the squad after overcoming injuries that forced her to skip her freshmen season.
