Traditions & Celebrations

With more than 60 years of rich history, LCA has developed many traditions that help to celebrate our rich diversity and unify us as a community.

In Our Daily Life

As a newcomer or visitor to LCA, you will be amazed at the many threads of traditions and celebrations that help weave the ‘tapestry’ of daily life in the halls of LCA.  There are lockers that are decorated for a celebration and student artwork that beautify the halls. The sweet sounds of chorale singing fill the hallways.  There are students dressed up in their “Blue Crew” attire or the outfit of the day’s theme – like Disney Day or Twin Day.  Some morning you find all of the members of the LCA community gathered for Assembly and one never knows what is in store – we begin with morning devotion but then there are funny skits, lively presentations, and serious calls to action.  Many and diverse are the threads of tradition in our daily lives at LCA.

Special Events Throughout the Year

In addition to the traditions that happen on a day-to-day basis at LCA and the school events such as concerts, theatre productions and proms that are common at most schools, LCA has a range of special events and moments that help to fulfill the old adage:  “variety is the spice of life!”   For the entire student body, a highlight of the fall is Spirit Week – which includes special greetings at the door, fun contests like “saltines and whistling”, and Field Day.  Spirit Week leads up to Homecoming Saturday – a day when the LCA family (including alumni, students, faculty, staff and their relatives of all ages) come together for athletic contests, barbeques, children’s events and more. The day concludes with a high school dance. Special chapel services include Raking Day, Lessons and Carols at Christmas, the Tenebrae Service before Easter, and our year-end senior chapel.  In March, regular classes are suspended for a week so that students may pursue their scholastic, career and cultural interests during Interim classes.  In May of each year, we hold “ArtsFest” – our hallways are turned into art galleries and the gymnasium is turned into a theatre celebrating the works of students in LCA’s Fine Arts program.  In June, the Senior Class Tea provides an opportunity to reminisce and celebrate all that graduating students have experienced here at LCA.  Class Day honors students’ accomplishments in the classroom, in the arts and on the athletic fields with awards and scholarships.  Graduation is a wonderful culmination to our year, steeped in so many traditions.

The many traditions at LCA help us joyfully celebrate life and unify us as brothers and sisters in Christ.  We invite you to come be a part of our community and enjoy these delightful traditions.
