Library

It is very fitting that the hallmark of LCA's building is the rotunda of our Phillips Library.  The library was built in 2002 with a generous donation from Bessie Wright Phillips.  The windows of the rotunda allow light in LCA just as the library helps illuminate our students' studies.  The library program at LCA prepares students to be effective users of ideas and information as well as helps to cultivate inquisitive, life-long learners.

The library is open from 7:30 - 5:30, Monday through Friday.  Mrs. Leslie Schoenherr, Librarian, & Mrs. Phyllis Martin, Library Assistant are available for assistance.

Today, our collection has more than 8,000 volumes, 50 periodical titles, 600 DVDs & videos, full internet access, and 6 online databases for student use.  All library materials circulate for a term with due dates in November, January, March and June.  The exception is reference material which does not circulate.  Please be considerate and return library material promptly or a fine of $.25 per week will accrue.

Mrs. Schoenherr collaborates closely with LCA faculty to ensure that library use enhances classroom topics.  There are more than a dozen desktops in the library available to students for academic use.  Some of the classroom software is loaded on these machines.  Games, lengthy emailing, I’Ming, Facebook and MySpace are not allowed.   In an effort to assist students in building life-long skills, Information Literacy classes are taught to 6th and 8th grade students.  Incoming 9th grade students are required to take Information Navigation classes.  Many students and faculty enjoy the book discussions, literary trivia contests, poetry readings, author visits, and cartoon & anime contests that take place in the library.
