Eleven middle school students were treated to hot fudge sundaes to celebrate their summer reading. Each student read 20 books over the summer. One student commented “I’m not a reader but I read 20 books for the hot fudge sundae.” Mrs. Lori Johnson, middle school English teacher makes the best hot fudge according to students. Favorites among the summer books were: Esperanza Rising, Willow, Stargirl, Lemonade Mouth, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Wrinkle in Time and Touch Blue. One student commented that the most challenging book read was A Tale of Two Cities. Students had to write down the titles and submit the list with a parent signature. All Middle School students read five books over the summer. Mrs. Johnson commented, “Many other students were closing in on the twenty books, but just fell short, reading closer to fifteen. Kudos to all the readers who read more than what was required!”

Our winning readers were: Taylor Kitchen, Louis Lee, Michelle Zhou, Angela Zhang, Matt Fong, Mariam Pitan, Fikemi Faleye, Martina Baba, Gus Lee, Elisabeth Pitan, and Kinsey Ehmann. Middle School students have another chance to win sundaes with the class competition of “The Great Reading Race.”  The eighth grade is currently in first place with 65 books read for pleasure since the beginning of the school year.
