In a game of H-O-R-S-E, you have to call “bank” when a shot goes off the backboard.  Thankfully for LCA, no such rule exists in real games.  With just over 90 seconds left in the game, LCA Sophomore Vicky Nguyen (Woburn, MA) hit a three-pointer off the backboard to put LCA up 41-40.  A couple of hard-fought defensive possession later, the Lions emerged with the 43-40 victory to complete an undefeated season in the Eastern Independent League—a perfect 13-0!

Nguyen led the Lions with 18 points, 11 of which came in the second half.   The point guard added 5 steals and 3 rebounds.  She was joined in double-figure scoring by senior tri-captain Karolline Braga (Somerville, MA) who scored 12 points and collected 13 rebounds.  Braga's 2 free-throws with under 10 seconds left gave the Lions a small sigh of relief leading to the final buzzer.

Beaver was led in scoring by freshman Steph Soto Rivera who scored 17 points. 

The Lions will travel to Beaver Country Day on Saturday with the rest of the league to play in the annual EIL Basketball Tournament.  With their undefeated season, though, LCA has already wrapped up the EIL Championship as they head into the “play day” tournament.  After Saturday’s tournament, which will include two games, the Lions will prepare for the Class D NEPSAC Tournament that starts next week Wednesday, March 2.  NEPSAC Tournament schedules will be released on Monday, February 28.
